  3. Behind the Scenes | Dig Diary Day 6

In today’s video, veteran and Waterloo Uncovered’s quartermaster Ben takes you behind the scenes as we prefer for our press day!

Meet the team

After serving 27 years in the Army deploying on 8 operational tours, including Iraq and Afghanistan, Rod retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel 5 years ago and now works as a clinical lead for Walking With The Wounded. He not only assisted Waterloo Uncovered in his capacity as a mental health professional, but also joined us for one week of the dig as a veteran.

More recently, Rod has been supporting our Veterans’ Programmes as a specialist Welfare Officer, providing help, support and advice to our veteran participants.

“Year after year you watch people come here, withdrawn and effected by their military experience and beyond.  But you watch people over the two weeks go from that to leaving happier, more alive, more fulfilled, with new skills, abilities and confidence. It’s a magical experience.”

Day Six In Pictures

Today we welcomed journalists, photographers and videographers from Belgium, Ukraine and the UK to visit site and meet some of the team! Keep an eye for articles which will soon appear in the Times, the Brussels Times, the Telegraph, the Daily Express, Radio Free Europe and more.

Our finds team were on hand to show off some of our most exciting finds from this year and previous years, along with our trusty excavation dog Guinness!
